2008 SEMINAR SPEAKERS
Tom Beisecker, Ph.D. Dr. Beisecker is President of Advocacy Research Institute, Inc. and a professor at the University of Kansas in the Department of Communication Studies. In his academic role he coordinates the graduate program for future jury researchers. Through his corporate endeavors he conducts jury research and trial consulting nation-wide. He has published in law journals on the standards for obtaining a change of venue and the discoverability of trial consultant work product. Cora Butler, R.N., J.D With degrees in both law and health services management Ms. Butler served eleven years in the workers compensation insurance industry and over 20 years in healthcare administration. She is currently the Compliance Officer for Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance Company. Brenda Campbell Mrs. Campbell is the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Compliance Officer for Cooper County Memorial Hospital. Among her many duties is responsibility for ensuring the safeguarding of medical records maintained by hospital staff in accordance with the HIPAA standards. Daniel P. Card II, J.D. Recently retired from his esteemed practice of law,Mr.Card has served seven years as an Assistant Attorney General before more than 25 years in private practice. He has authored portions of the Missouri Practice series and serves as Chair of the Governor's Council on Disabilities. A significant portion of Mr. Card's practice involved the representation of individual health professional with respect to a variety of legal ethical issues which confronted these persons on a daily basis. Patricia Curtis Following 25 years as a litigation paralegal and 15 years of law office administration, Ms. Curtis is the Administrative Director at White Goss Bowers March Schulte & Weisenfels in Kansas City, Missouri.With this wealth of experience Ms Curtis frequently presents topics ranging from confidentiality and conflict checking through law office policies and procedures. Ms Curtis was an active member of MPA in its early days and she remains an associate member. Kathryn L. Dudley, J. D. Ms. Dudley is a principal with the law firm of Paule, Camazine & Blumenthal, P.C., in St. Louis, Missouri. Her practice primarily involves domestic relations and family law matters including complex custody and financial cases, and she also advises psychologists and other mental health professionals with respect to subpoenas and record-keeping. She has authored many various articles relative to legal issues which confront the mental health practitioner and has frequently lectured on family law. Laura Gerdes Long, J.D. A member of the litigation department of the St. Louis firm of Danna McKitrick, Ms. Long focuses her attention on employment, insurance, municipal and healthcare law. She has made numerous presentations to fire and emergency medical personnel, municipal city clerks, newly-elected city/municipal officials as well as physicians and employers. Ms. Long served as prosecutor for several municipalities in St. Louis County. Reginald Turnbull, J.D. An attorney practicing in Jefferson City,Missouri, Mr. Turnbull specializes in representing older persons, disabled persons, their families and advocates. His practice includes special needs trusts, estate planning, probate and trust estate administration, among others, in the particular area of service to the elderly and disabled. Mariam Decker, B.S.N., J.D. Currently a practicing attorney involved in medial malpractice defense, general insurance defense, and professional licensing representation of health care professionals, Mrs. Decker previously maintained a distinguished career as a registered nurse and consultant. She has given numerous presentations on medical negligence and maintaining medical records for both legal and medical professionals. Carl Schaeperkoetter, J.D. Mr. Schaeperkoetter is the Staff Counsel for the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel. His duties include investigations and trials throughout the state; being liaison for St. Louis City and County Regional Disciplinary Committees; and being Coordinator for the Diversion and Probation Programs. Prior to joining the OCDC, Mr. Schaeperkoetter was in private practice following a stint as law clerk for a federal judge. Harry D. Williams, J.D. Mr. Williams is presently General Counsel for the Missouri Department of Social Services. Previously, he played an integral role serving as privacy officer and in the initial development of the Social Services compliance policies and procedures for HIPAA related issues. Mr.Williams has also served the Department of Revenue and the Administrative Hearing Commission. |
